EDM Alarm - 317 - Back up Panel Active
Alarm code 317 in the EDM is for "back up panel active". EDM alarm messages can be found in the Application & Installation Manual - DDEC Bridge Control. See attached. The back up panel is a unit usually incorporated into a level 2 DDEC bridge control system and allow the user to manually override all throttle inputs to the system for emergency situations. My understanding is that this customer has purchased a set of second hand engines from a vessel which was equipped with a level 2 system and has only installed the needed equipment for a level 1 system. The EDM module has a level of "functional software" loaded into it so it knows what accessories to look for.We have proven this by connecting a level 1 EDM and operating the system with no EDM alarms for the missing/not installed back up panel. The two options are,Purchase new EDM modules which have the functional software for a level 1 bridge control. At the customers expense, we send the EDM modules back to the manufacturer (Sturdy Corp.) to have the functional software adjusted as needed. The software to connect and reprogram an EDM is available at a cost from Sturdy Corp. but as this is not a reoccurring situation with our volume of Sturdy EDM's this could not be justified.
