Fan Belt failure Series 1600 Genset - new belt appears too short
Fan belt failure on S1600 genset.Penske technician attempted to install a new MTU supplied belt (Part No. X57599100171) but found it too short causing the fan tohit the shroud. This MTU supplied belt is an Optibelt 18EPK1232 with 1232mm length. The technician believed that the belt required should be about 1250 mm in length.However, investigations with MTU 2nd level (Open Issues reference #91) showed that the issue was related to fan belt setup and tensioning. If the correct MTU operating instructions are followed and the correct tensioning tool is used (Penske did not have, but has not bought) then the parts catalogue does call out the correct belt part #.
