External start interlock message

External start interlock message

If you are on board a vessel which has the message External start interlock coming up, when the start button is pushed, it is usually one of two things.1) On a 2000M70 there is a micro switch on the front belt guard, this switch either breaks up internally or the mounting bracket just breaks off due to excessive vibration, this switch should be checked,all 4000 uses the same switches at the rear of the engine, but do not suffer the same problems.2) The main cause of this message is either the ready for operation or local control buttons in the LOP door, these buttons are latching and after a while the latching mechanisms fail, the procedure to change is simple. The PAN panel has to be opened from the rear and the contact block gently twisted and pulled out then swapped for a new one.The LED indicator is polarity conscious, so keep in mind when changing the LED from the old contact block into the new contact block. If one of the button contacts have failed the engine can always be started by holding down the ready for operation or local control button and at the same time push the start button in the engine room at the LOP.The latest part number for the Ready for operation /Local control contact block is B00E50206630
