Mercedes PLD Parameter change request from 24v to 12v - error code SPN 24578 & SPN 155649
In this case, the engine was replaced with one from PPS stock with a similar calibration that was altered for us by MTU on the mainframe. When replacing and trying to match an older engine, the use of a newer "V23" PLD controller requires updating of the engine calibration file. Sometimes when fitting these older calibration files onto a newer engine error codes can occur, such as happened here (see Mark Scott's email below). We have had MTU verify the dataset and did find, as we discussed on Friday night, that the error is looking for additional T4i OEM sensor in the intake which your installation doesn't utilize - they have confirmed have adjusted the mainframe now with a data set for your unit that doesn't look for this sensor and will work fine - please download again into your PLD and test on your training engine for good measure to ensure ok.Note - re. Oil level sensor will need to work through verifying suitable functionality settings as we discussed that suits the pan / sensor config using on this new engine. From: Scott, Mark Sent: Friday, 15 September 2017 1:55 PM To: Burton, Dominic DBurton@penskeps.com>; Pell, Tim TPell@penskeps.com> Subject: OM926LA Fault Codes Dominic & Tim, We have an MR from a new OM926LA engine that has 2 current fault codes which we cannot identify. They are in the attachment. Coincidentally, the customer was bringing up 2 SAE J1939 codes on their Cantrak display that we could not identify – SPN 24578& SPN 155649. Neither code had an FMI. I think that they may be the same faults as the Mercedes codes. Background on this – We re-specced this engine to replace a failed engine in an agricultural sprayer. Since the original engine is 12V and the replacement was 24V, we had to reprogram the MR with a modified file to convert it to 12V. When the engine was fitted, they couldn’t start it and had the 2 mystery SAE codes plus a high oil level code. I had them fit the MR from the old engine. Started fine and the codes were not present. The old and new MRs were sent up to us. We worked out that the parameter settings from the old engine’s MR were not retrieved and mirrored into the new one, resulting in an engine that wouldn’t start once fitted to the machine. Turns out the “starter type” was wrong. We corrected that and were able to start and run my training engine with the new MR. We suspect that the oil pan type is also incorrect, causing the oil level code. We are looking for the correct setting for this. So the only problem we are left with are these codes and a check engine light. We do not want to send the MR back to the customer without fixing this issue. Any assistance you can provide is appreciated. Cheers. Please supply me with a PO to MTU America for US$500.Where currently is the engine situated as we may still need the PLD hardware details ie. sticker on back of PLD or read with MD2 - as we did previously.rgdsTech Support
