Using PDM Copy Tree to copy files into New Project Folder
·
When
you copy a file from an old project to a new project, the new
file (even with new name changes etc.) contains variable values from the old
project.
·
Example
would be copying a file from the “Bluescope” folder to my “Test Project –
Kevin” folder, the new file will still have the ‘Product Family, ‘Product’,
‘Project Number’ and ‘Project Name’ linked to the “Bluescope” values.
·
Furthermore,
the created on, created by etc. also has old values. However, these values get
overwritten when the file is pushed through the workflow.
The solution:
·
I’ve
changed COPYtree so that when copying to a new folder, these variables get
cleared. This means the new data card will be mostly blank!
·
To
inherit new project values to the data card:
1.
Check
out your new
files (the newly copied over ones)
2.
Then
in the parent folder of your newly copied files,
HIGHLIGHT>MODIFY (Top Toolbar)>Update>Values in Files.
3.
A
window should pop up with a few prompts. You can select next for all of them
until you reach step 4 (Note, the first step allows you to filter which checked
out files you want to update).
4.
On
Step 4, ensure you highlight yes to all available variables to be ‘updated’.
5.
Once
you complete the prompts the files you had checked out in that folder should no
longer be blank.
